Team Work

MarketX is a cross-border financial platform, and it needs to build a new product -Enterprise Dashboard - and demonstrate to investors. I started the design with contextual research and rapid prototyping.

The final built product  allows Chinese investors to achieve their financial objectives by re-envisioning the personalized dashboard and making monitoring investment status easier. The design specifically caters to the Chinese users. I was in charge of exploring design solutions and executing design with engineers.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

My role in this project was to help MarketX translate their vision into a compelling design of an enterprise dashboard. I brainstormed with executives, participated in user research, mapped user journeys, and designed the desktop and mobile app of the dashboard to help MarketX present the product to investors.

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge was to present tons of information in a dashboard that makes sense, clearly indicates what enterprise users need to know, and is visually appealing and in line of MarketX’s branding and visual identity. This dashboard is intended to be used mainly by Chinese-speaking people, and one of the specific goals of MarketX is to create a design that ‘feels native’ to Chinese users.

DESIGN PROCESS

Uncovering features

We started by interviewing both current and potential Chinese investors to gain insights and understand what features they want to see in a dashboard.

PERSONA CREATION

Based on the research, I developed 4 key personas and made them the north star. The personas helped us develop need statements which helped the team prioritize what users needed the most.

Need Statement:

Jennifer uses enterprise dashboard to quickly communicate to her boss of how their investors have been doing.

Pain Points:

She feels frustrated when she needs to go through all the data and manually summarize key indicator numbers every time.

Pain Points:

Thomas has to take extra time to predict return by investment class and sometimes make educated guesses.

CONCEPT IDEATION

Through these personas and research, we saw that the dashboard all comes down to: showing data clearly and visually, provide info about new products, and allow users to access query results effectively.

To validate the ideas, we went from whiteboard to wireframes to hi-fi prototypes.
